WDBP is a discussion list associated to the initiative "The Worldwide Donkey Breeds Project". This project set up in 2011, and emerged in the research group AGR218 of the University of Cordoba (Spain), internationally and in a non-profitable manner aims to connect and promote the academic and institutional communication and research collaboration among those research groups, institutions, companies and individual researchers dedicated to the study and research on the donkey species,. With members from more than 47 countries, this organization is open to all professionals of any discipline that may contribute to the development and improvement of the conditions from the one all the variants are currently under endangered.
HOW WAS THE DONKEY BREEDS WORLDWIDE PROJECT WDBP CREATED?
WDBP is the first discussion list working with donkeys worldwide. The first attempts to connect the entities, organizations and researchers working in the field were carried out through the DAD-net server from the FAO, since 2010. However the patent disconnection situation and the global scope of the server made necessary to simultaneously create a network that would allow combining the efforts of these organizations in order to promote and stimulate the development of projects that had international donkey populations as a framework.
WDBP intends to serve as a means of communication and discussion among the members of The Worldwide Donkey Breeds Project, which opens its doors to all those interested in the development of the donkey species, without discriminating their profession, activity, race, sex, or place of origin.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF WDBP?
WDBP aims to provide a forum for the search, dissemination and discussion of objective information on the production, handling, reproduction, pathology, genetics, nutrition, ethology, technical management, financial management, medicine, among other disciplines, with donkeys as its field of action and aims to connect all the professionals and institutions that specifically develop activities with this species. We believe that through this medium the professional activity of researchers, veterinarians, consultants, academics and farmers can improve, with the consequent impact on improving the conditions of this species.
HOW DOES WDBP WORK?
WDBP is a moderated electronic discussion list. Just as any discussion list, it consists of a central computer that manages the incoming messages and distributed to all subscribers. Being moderate, both subscription and message distribution is overseen by the moderator, which accepts subscriptions and regulates that messages do not violate the rules of operation of the list.
WHO CAN SUBSCRIBE TO WDBP?
WDBP is open to all people interested in the donkey species, encouraging their adherence to the working group The Worldwide Donkey Breeds Project, regardless their professional status, or workplace. We are aware that the success of WDBP depends on the voluntary participation of its members and respect for the established rules of operation.
WHAT TO ASK ABOUT IN WDBP?
In WDBP you can ask about any aspect related to the donkey species, in the broadest sense of the word. Messages should refer as much as possible to facts, or in any case be indicated as "opinion" or "speculation" when they are anything other than facts. WDBP will not allow the use of the list as a platform for political demands or emotional character issues. On the contrary, we encourage the members of WDBP to start discussions based on facts and constructive criticism that will lead to better understanding of the issues discussed in WDBP.
Direct advertising of products or services offered by companies or individuals, or any activity that targets personal or business profit will be avoided. References to treatments or trademarks will be accepted provided they are intended to inform or express facts. Commercial houses or representatives of veterinary products/livestock use may use this medium to respond directly and baldly to allusions to the products they represent, but UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, messages with commercial content are accepted. The moderator reserves the right to terminate discussions when its content had become commercial discussions between treatments or trademarks and therefore had stopped providing information to the reader. This restriction is intended to keep the list in a field of communication of useful information.
WHAT IS NEEDED TO USE WDBP?
To access WDBP you need to be connected to the Internet and to own an email account. At present, there are several companies with servers, through which you can hire the connection and maintenance of email accounts. You need to have a computer and a modem to connect to the server. Later in this message, instructions for proper use of the list are given.
WDBP intended to be a useful means of communication. All those suggestions aimed at improving the functioning or usefulness of the list should be sent to the moderator and will be taken into consideration.
