The XVII RedIRIS Annual Conference, which was hosted by the University of Granada, took place from the 15th to the 17th November.
More than 400 members of the Spanish academic and research community attended the Conference and joined there to discuss and present innovative projects related to networking, middleware and applications.
All Spanish universities and most of the main research centres were represented at the Meeting.
The main topics on the agenda this year were related to intensive network use, applications, advanced collaborative services, identity management, mobility and virtualization.
During the conference, the new national research and academic backbone RedIRIS-10 was presented. The core of the new network includes several 10 Gbps links, which will allow RedIRIS to cater the needs of the research centres which require more bandwidth.
In parallel with the Conference, there was a commercial exhibition which attracted thirteen leading companies of the communications sector, that have contributed to fund the Conference.
